The other week I was out at the Hospice Rest Area, which is a beautiful spot along the river, by the hospital. I started taking pictures of the beautiful plants in the wooden planters, thinking how perfect they were. Got a little closer for this show and then realized, they are SILK!

"Love me when I least deserve it, because that's when I really need it."
Swedish proverb
"We promise according to our hopes and perform according to our fears." -- Francois, Duc de La Rochefoucauld
"I don't believe people die from hard work. They die from stress and worry and fear -- the negative emotions. Those are the killers, not hard work. The fact is, in our society today, most people don't understand what hard work is all about." --A.L. Williams
"Do not give any time to your past, you can't change what happened 5 minutes ago." -- Jan Ruhe
"The fear is worse than the pain." -- Shannon Bahr

"The secret to happiness is not to get what you want, but to want what you already have. If you think about it, most discontent grows from want. We want more stuff, more excitement, more pleasure. When we don't get those things, we're resentful and unsatisfied. Take away the want, and you take away the unhappiness. When your quality of life is tied to your desires, fulfillment is a shadow that escapes your view. Like trying to imagine a new color, the harder you look, the harder it is to see. Does this mean you stop setting goals and striving for a healthy lifestyle and better life? No. It means you can appreciate life regardless of the outcome. It means you can relish the pursuit while accepting the possibility of failure. It means you can still enjoy the ride. Happiness is not a destination--it's a way of life. " SPARK

You Are Beautiful

link to Beliefnet inspiration article
"Take a moment to look at the circumstances of your world. Is it what you want to see? What could you do differently to take one step closer to your ideal vision? We're all dealt different hands in life. That's how things are. To change things, you have to first accept that fact, then figure out where to go from here. We should all be able to count on each other for help, but in the end, we can't expect anyone to change our lives except ourselves. Nor should we want it that way. It's natural to feel powerless and give up in the face of hardships. But complaining and blaming do nothing except prevent action. Without positive action, you're giving up your power and asking for more of the same--a world you did not create. Where you start may not be your fault, but the course you run is still your choosing. "Action is the only way anything ever gets done. Sitting around and waiting for life to happen to you will only guarantee one thing: that you're not going to end up with a life you love. By waiting, you can react to what's tossed your way and nothing more. It's easy to take a passive approach to life without taking chances. It's easy to fall into a rut and do the same things the same way all the time. Change is sometimes hard, but it's change that will reveal all the wonders that life has to offer. You can break out of your set ways by taking action. Try doing the same thing a different way. Jump in with both feet and learn something new. Ask a friend to teach you a skill they're good at. Grow as a person and your world grows with you. " Spark

Two of my favorite things: Joey Fatone and CSI

I had another great day yesterday.

Coupon in my inbox for one of my favorite LSS'... on the way to where I was going to a surprise party for my BMF, so how could I not stop? Spent an HOUR in there, just looking and touching and ooohing and aahing. Got the above stamp; hope to be better at dating my layouts. Also got a Wordsworth stamp: "You make me smile", some chipboard and two new magazines.

Then I visited my dear friends with the twin girls. They are ten months old and mobile! Both are so beautiful and they just make you feel good to be around them. Took pictures of course and some turned out pretty adorable. Can't get much better than taking baby pictures. Love those girls. I so look forward to spending more time and helping out with them, once I move down closer.

After that visit, off to the mall to see if I could find cotton clothes for Vegas. I am not a fan of heat and it's supposed to range between 40-45 degrees Celsius. Nice. No luck finding any shorts or capris. I need to lose some weight. But I got six tank tops that I was fairly happy with. Buying plus size clothing is a drag. I've slowly learned over the years that when I find something that I like and fits nice, I have to buy it then. Otherwise things get sold out or you never get back and seasons change. And when your options are so limited, makes it even more of a drag. So much of it is "old lady" stuff and I want to feel "young, hip and fresh". I did try on that leopard print dress that I had tried on the day before, in a size bigger, and I have to say, it looked pretty good. But seriously, I have two dresses now and do I really need a third? I am not a fan of wearing dresses. Have to wear a girdle. Yuck. Two is enough.

Then it was off to the surprise party. I think my friend was surprised I came. Was nice to meet his family and friends and just be among adults. I was really happy to meet his sister and her husband and daughter, so that was bonus. Great meal, good times.

Having a lazy day today. Going to my parents' for dinner. Will do a few chores but just want to veg before going back to work tomorrow. The next couple of weeks are going to be hell with extra work things on my days off.

Joey Jives

Had to have a new pair of Crocs. Light pink. Aren't they "springy"?
Had a fantastic day with my girls.
Who knew that display units for new townhome complexes are closed on Fridays!?!?!?!?! We drove around a few of them, some I liked more than others. Will be a whole new living experience. Lots of them had great views of the shopping area down below on 200th and the bypass. :)
So we went for a nice lunch at Milestones. They do make the best Bellini's. A little shopping afterwards; my girlfriend is an amazing beadist and she's going to make me some rockin necklaces for Vegas. It was nice to show her beads I liked and then have her say yeah or nay and show what goes with what.
Then we went and saw a movie. I'd never even heard of it. And I haven't been in a theatre in two years, since Forty Year Old Virgin. We saw "Fracture". I liked it. Anthony Hopkins is so good and Ryan Gosling is yummy. Loved the movie popcorn.
Slow ride home because of the holiday traffic. Stopped at the Superstore so they could do some grocery shopping for the week-end. I picked up CSI season 6 for dd and I to watch. And a Fiskar's ruler for tearing scalloped edges. They were 3.99 at the Superstore and at Michaels, 13.99. Exact same thing. Fiskar's metal tearing rulers, in a variety of styles.
Home to have my girl home for a short time, worked an 8 hour day and then out to play. I sat in bed and watched a bit of CSI and enjoyed my new Papercrafts magazine.
It was a GOOD day.
And.....
I slept like a log. No dreams. Only woke up once to go to the bathroom. What a difference a good sleep makes for me. Sipping some coffee now and pondering what to do today......

The latest pic of the handsome boy.

This gown is available in a store in a mall right across the street from the hotel we'll be staying at. Do you think I should have one more???

yeah ok, so I had a lovely three hour nap! ;)

Love these new chipboard embellishments from Elsie Flannigan, from her new line: Love, Elsie. Fun!

I used to be a bubble bath freak. Now, I don't take bubble baths anymore. That big beautiful tub that I have wanted for years, is now an emotional issue for me. But, I am in to body scrubs. My shower is full of them. So I can't wait to go to Bath and Bodyworks in Vegas as they have some great products. The one above is Chocolate Mocha. Could it be anymore perfect for me?

  • the nightshifts were painfully slow. Seriously, it's either hot or cold at work. The dayshift was a gong show. The nights, soooo long. I had my work done by 10pm. 7am is a long ways away. You can only stock so much.
  • Yesterday was my turn around day. Slept ok til 1 and then felt gross the rest of the day. It was after 9pm that I went to sleep and had an awful sleep. Kept dreaming someone was stabbing me in my back with hunter knives. Of course I wake up this morning and my back is killing me. Weird how the mind works, huh? I'm so totally ready for a nap.
  • Today is housecleaning day. Need to get groceries. Pick up RX's. Maybe pressurewash the deck, if the weather holds out.
  • Tomorrow...... going with my girlfriends on a little road trip to see if we can check out a few townhomes; display units in new complexes. FUN. And then maybe some shopping and a nice lunch. Good times.

thoughts about Vegas

I remember just before I went to Vegas for the first time, thinking, I was going to love it so much I would have to go every year. And it was a nice visit with DH but some things sort of put me off and I came back from the trip, thinking, "been there, done that".
Then,a few years later, I thought it would be a fun trip for my mom and I to do, for our birthdays. And we went last year and had a blast. We went and saw Mamma Mia, went up the Eiffel Tower, walked the strip a million times, watched the Bellagio fountains a lot, shopped, had good meals, had fun playing cheap slot machines. I'm now back to loving Vegas and wanting to go all the time.
So this summer, DD and I are going with my very dear friend and his partner. I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. Like already packing a suitcase, excited. We are staying in the fanciest 5 star hotel there. I'm so not fitting in, me with my crocs. First time ever, in that kind of hotel. Probably will be the last too. I am looking forward to showing DD the strip and seeing favorites, like the Bellagio fountains, Bellagio chocolate fountain, Desert Passage, Forum Shops, Cheesecake Factory, Fashionshow Mall, etc. I would love to ride a gondola at the Venetian hotel. I'd also love to go out to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Damn, but it is so hot there in August that it most likely would not be enjoyable. I hope to see a show, like "O" or maybe the one at the hotel we're staying at. Looks like the hotel has a beautiful restaurant on the pool patio. Would love to have a breakfast out there. Would love to find a Williams Sonoma and a big Lane Bryant. Spend some time in the spa. I know we are going to have a FANTASTIC time.
"Your goals may not come easy. There is no accomplishment without work, and no "win" without something to beat. It's easy to get discouraged when roadblocks appear--in fact, it's only natural. You've invested time and emotion into creating the perfect plan, and then something has to come along and muck it all up. Sometimes, though, all you have to do to beat that barrier is to get back up and move forward again. Obstacles are like the Wizard of Oz--they're a lot less intimidating once you see them up close. Next time you take a step back, don't let guilt pile it on top of your previous "stumbles". Just take two steps forward and you're still further along than you were before. It doesn't matter how many walls you face. You only have to get the better of that last one." Spark

Don't know what it is but I woke up around noon with a heavy feeling of doom. Feel really really down. Totally not expected as I should be excited about Vegas. One more night.

"Living according to your true values.
The best intentions matter little if your daily life doesn't reflect those values. How can you make sure that your thoughts and actions match? Good or bad, your values are shaped by your actions just as much as they do the shaping. Actions that are true to your values build a stronger personal foundation that others can see. Why are the memories of our greatest personal and public heroes so powerful and timeless, long after they're gone? They stood for something. They were living, breathing examples of the values they prized. It takes courage, a belief in yourself and strong determination. But it can be done. Do one thing today that shows the world what you believe. Do one thing that you know is right. Do one thing that would make your hero smile." SPARK

stuff

  1. I cut the lawn yesterday. The front wasn't a problem but it took two hours to do the back. It was such a jungle; the grass was still wet and hard to get through. I will have to redo it either tomorrow or Saturday. I do not like yardwork.
  2. My truck is in the shop. Brakes. Window. Door. $$$. Brought the dog with me and we walked home, which made him happy. A beautiful day. Stopped at my parents and had a little visit and they spoiled him with roast bones.
  3. Made chicken wraps for dinner for the two of us. Caught up on stuff. Hate not having her home every day.
  4. Lawyer sent me a proof letter and it's all good to send to them. I just want this settled. Someone stopped me at the grocery store yesterday and pointed out that I did not have a picture of my husband (my new pink purse has three photo's in the front; after all it IS a scrapbooking purse). I said, "um yeah, we're getting divorced". They couldn't believe it. "You just did all those renovations." yep.
  5. Tidied up the scrapbooking room. Haven't felt like playing. Burnt out from doing those two albums back to back. Hopefully my g/f will come Saturday and she will inspire me.
  6. It's Nursing Week. I put up some old picture posters at work and apparently they had a tea yesterday. So, Happy Nursing Week.
  7. Excited about Vegas. Bellagio would be my #1 choice of hotel. Out of my price range I'm sure. NY NY, Monte Carlo, Planet Hollywood, TI, MGM are probable options. Would really like to see a show while there, but so many of the good ones are close to $200US each! Can't wait to go to The Cheesecake Factory and have that yummy salad and White Macadamia Nut cheesecake. I wonder what kind of martini's they make. I'm rethinking the Grand Canyon. Too hot to be going out there. And then there is the shopping. I can't wait to see what kind of Crocs they have. I might finally get my Croc boots!
  8. I have moved into the middle of the bed. First night it didn't work so well but now I've got it mastered. I feel like a princess. The dog however, is put out because I haven't put the bedspread back on (after the cat peed on it!!!!) and so he's stuck on the floor on his blanket.
  9. I am craving sweet creamy decadent desserts. I think it is sympathy cravings because of my pregnant friend.
  10. I'm working part of an OT shift tomorrow.

Or Chocolate?

The sun has made me crave Strawberry Desserts. Which one is your favorite?

VEGAS BABY VEGAS

Yes, I AM going to Vegas! I made the decision last Friday with the assistance of my girlfriends. Have to live TODAY to the fullest. And then, I found out that my very dear friends are going to come with my DD and I. What a blast it will be. The only time I can go is August, so unfortunately it will be COOKING hot, but, we will have a fantastic time. Good food, good drink, great sites, awesome shopping, best company.

"Once film negatives are exposed to the light of day, they're ruined. In the same way, once you see your worries for what they are--self-inflicted doubts--their power disappears. If you give your doubts and fears too much development time, they'll take hold and start to color all of your thinking in a negative light. Pessimists have more health problems, are less productive, and are generally unhappier than optimists. People that don't worry as much spend more time coping with the realities of life and less time occupied with would-be problems. To get rid of worry, think more confidently. Know that you can handle anything that comes along. Know that with loss comes opportunity. Know that things generally have a way of working out. Stay out of that dark room and picture something better. " Spark
It's my niece's 8th birthday today, so I shout out a "happy birthday" to her!
ER was quite steady last night. Not much time to run to the bathroom and sit for five minutes to eat. Five days off now. Gorgeous outside but I'm sure I will sleep just fine today.

"It's easy to stay true to our values when life is sunny. But because sometimes hope disappears, options run out, and bright days can turn dark, all you can really count on to be there is your own inner strength. These low points are chances to learn what you're capable of when you refuse to be knocked down for good. You may not be able to choose your hardships or options. But you do have the power to face what you're given with high character. Trust yourself and your instincts, and your best will come forward. Think about the last time you had the choice to fold under pressure or to rise to the occasion. How might you have handled it a little differently? If there's room for improvement, what actions would have made you more proud of yourself? " SPARK

I have this swimsuit on order, thanks to my dear girlfriend. Perfect for Vegas, don't you think? It will be my second leopard print swimsuit I've owned in my life. And I came up with a great idea for a layout: Love of Leopard... with all the different clothes I've had over the years! Fun!

  • 23 years ago, a boy jumped into the river to prove his love to me and I agreed to be his girlfriend
  • a year ago, a man offered to do the same and I fell in love all over again
  • today, alone. wondering what memories are real and what are not.

A closeup of a flower that was in a floral basket at work yesterday. Pretty and Pink.

Yesterday at work was CHAOS. Couldn't ever get control of it. Learning my new role and trying to be a resource, aware of the patient care, etc. Had two big "things" happen and they really just set the rest of the shift into the realm of lost control. My mind wouldn't stop last night and I slept poorly because of that, and my ankle, which is throbbing like you wouldn't believe and the size of an elephants. I hope the nights are better.

Here's a better look at the dress I got. It's PERFECT for Vegas.

I thought it was prudent that I show that I do have some fashion sense. Yes, I have always loved leopard print. I thought I looked pretty hot in the above picture; borrowed a leopard print dressing gown (mini skirt short) and wore it to a highschool dance with black heels!!! This is 1984. :-)

OMG. I know I'm not a fashion expert, but seriously?

My handsome boy who had a bath and haircut today. He smells soooo good, is silky soft and looks younger! Four hours of special treatment! I'm going to try and take him in every three months so it should be more manageable for the lady who grooms him.

"Each day is a new chance to find joy and to dance. If you let it pass or think it useless, the chance is gone and you'll never get it back. When was the last time you played? Or just did something for the sheer fun of it? Joy is not found in the world around you, it's within yourself. You can make your own joy, especially during those dark times when you need to really feel alive again. Fun and play are healthy antidotes to taking life--and ourselves--too seriously. They're proven boosters of immune systems and mental health and make life worth the trouble. So do the twist. Sing in the shower. Learn a magic trick. Watch a cartoon. Challenge some kids to a game. Don't let a single day go to waste. " Spark People

Is this me?
